Job Title – Expert Laboratory Veterinarian:
(i) Capacity assessments of SADC National veterinary laboratories during the process of selection of a second service laboratory for the diagnosis of HPAI and other TADs in the SADC Region (assignment included assessment of diagnostic capacity and quality management system, and documentation and publication of the selection process);
(ii) Harmonization of the HA/HI and PCR standard operating procedures for the diagnosis of Avian influenza in the SADC region.

(i) Design and implementation of a quality management system (QMS) according to ISO/IEC 17025 standards and facilitation of laboratory accreditation in selected National veterinary laboratories in the SADC region (assignment included but not limited to setting quality goals for each test result and design QMS accordingly, quality manual and SOPs documentation, development of forms for technical and quality records, onsite validation of all methods, training of technical and professional staff in method validation and QMS, and pre-accreditation assessments) ;
(ii) Training of veterinary laboratory professionals from SADC member states (assignment included veterinary quality assurance program, diagnostic bacteriology, serology and virology); and
(iii) Evaluation of laboratory analytical equipment purchased by the Project before their acceptance and delivery to beneficiary member states.

assignment included but not limited to validation of techniques in food hygiene and microbiology laboratories of selected laboratories of SADC member states exporting meat and meat products, guidance on the implementation of a management system according to ISO/IEC 17025, evaluation of laboratory setup and flow of activities in existing and new laboratory facilities as part of readiness for accreditation.
